07.16.2002 :: Short Row Heel - Heel Stitch

Someone on the Socknitters list recently asked about using a patterned stitch while knitting short row heels. It makes perfect sense to still use the traditional heel stitch (Heel Stitch : * SL1, K1* across, Turn. SL1, Purl across), but for whatever reason, I wasn't seeing it on any of the examples of socks which had short row heels.
So, while knitting my most recent pair of socks, I figured "what the heck" and gave it a try. I'm psyched, because I love the way they turned out.
These were knit with white Regia + Cotton Sock Yarn. I got 10.5 st/in. using US000 needles (1.5mm). Surprisingly, they knit up rather quickly. I liked this yarn and will be using it again soon!

Great heel! I do like short row heels myself, but hadn't seen it done with the heel stitch--looks extra cushy! I'll have to try it.
