09.26.2002 :: Starting Inishmore

I started knitting a sweater from the Al1ce Starm0re book, Fisherman's Sweaters. The sweater is Inishmore and is one of my all time favorite sweater patterns. Wendy has knit two of these and they look great.

Other knitter's who have completed Inishmore:
Emily from woolworks.org
Flor knit Inishmore. It's the third sweater down the list.
From the knittingpages.com, another lovely sweater.

I swatched with the yarn that I had on hand, which I now realize kind of limited my view of the type of yarn that I should use. As it goes, I'll be knitting this in Mission Falls 1824 Wool. The color is thyme. It's just light enough to show off the stitches. I may have to knit this sweater again just to try it in a different yarn. Perhaps Peace Fleece Tundra.

The yarn specified in the pattern book is Rowan Magpie Aran. Once I determined the yardage and calculated how much of the MF 1824 that I would need, I ordered it from Patternworks. I had called around to some of my LYSs, but no one had more that twenty skeins of the same dyelot. I figured that I would need 23 + 1 for good measure.

I'm on my way. This will be the first sweater that I have knit for myself (or the first that I am likely to finish!).

Here is the pile:

hrmmm -- that's quite a few balls of MF1824 wool. I have a resource that stocks it for $3.50 a 50-g ball + shipping... I hope you got about as good a deal as that! It certainly adds up... Let me know if you need the info :-)

I was in at my LYS over the weekend and I saw that they had a good stock of MF1824 as well. Not sure what the prices are though.
