Jamieson's River Grass Gansey, sometimes known as the John McEnroe sweaterAfter finishing the River Grass Gansey, I've been highly motivated to start AND complete a few new projects.

Project Priority One (PP1) is a promised sweater for my dear SIL. The original plan was to make Alice Starmore's Cape Cod (Link is to Flor's Cape Cod with beautiful details), but the "one size" option offered in the book is kind of limiting. I thought that I could modify the pattern, but the panels are very wide, so the adjustments that would be necessary would probably not be worth the effort. So, I'm going to knit Inishmore for her. I just ordered a big pile of Mission Falls 1824 Wool in Cocoa and I think that this will knit up into a delicious sweater.

Project Priority Two (PP2) is Checkers. I bought the kit at Stitches West and am looking forward to wearing this sweater in 2003! I've finished one sleeve. It took about a week. The current plan is to switch off between Checkers and Inishmore to save my hands. spicy textureCheckers is knit in sportweight wool on small needles and is all stockinette stitch. I think that mixing up the straight ss with some aran-work will work just perfectly.

Here's a closeup of the pattern in the River Grass Gansey. The full size picture doesn't capture it very well.

Beautiful knitting and great site! I agree that switching back and forth from a stockinette project to an aran is the way to go. I do the same thing although lately my energy level has been geared toward the stockinette wonder (well, moss stitch). Have a lace and cable cotton vest started. The key word here is "started" . Maybe I'll work on it tonight if the boyfriend doesn't start talking to me while I'm trying to keep track of what I'm doing. I've been known to put it away and pick up the moss st. project, all the while nodding my head and muttering "yes, dear". Keep us posted on your progress!

Your River Grass is a real inspiration. I may just have to get the book now! Glad I found your new site, and looking forward to your next Inishmore. You really do amazing work!
