09.14.2003 :: First Leaf

This lone leaf was laying on the ground outside my back door. It seemed to me like a welcome message telling me fall is on the way.
Of course, now that I think about it, this one leaf is to be appreciated mostly because of it's singleness. Once the trees above my yard start dropping their summer dressing, my praise for fall beauty will move away from the romantic and towards the practical (ugh. another weekend of raking leaves.).
On the knitting front, like last year at this time, I'm knitting Inishmore.
Like my first Inishmore, I'm using Mission Falls 1824 wool, this time in Cocoa. The luster of the yarn promotes the patterning even in the darker color. I think this pattern may be aran-perfection. It's enjoyable to knit, obvious in it's symmetry (so it's easy to remember) and beautiful in it's results. I may have to knit one each fall.
p.s. I love the fall knitty. Amy has outdone
herself again. Each issue keeps getting better and better. The talent displayed by the amazing people we "see" in the online knitting community every day is really amazing.

Inishmore is yummy in cocoa! BTW, I'm holding you personally responsible for my having just bought some Twinkletoes sock yarn. :-)

My LYS just started stocking Mission Falls wool. It sure does knit up into a beautiful sweater. Gorgeous!

I was going to ask the same question as Beth - did the MF wool grow since it's superwash? The colour is gorgeous.

The mission falls didn't grow, but it does have drape. It's easy to get the recommended gauge for the pattern (22st/inch), however the same gauge with Rowan Magpie, would probably be like a board.
I unintentionally made the sweater a tad to short, so a little bit of drape or downward stretch would not be a bad thing.
It's pilled a little bit, but the little puffs are easily pulled off. The luster of this yarn with this pattern is so lovely that I had to use it again. It also splits a little bit, but I haven't had any problem catching the splitting while it's happening and making the necessary adjustments.
And, yes, Nancy, this sweater is for you...I know that you'll eventually end up here! :-)

Thanks Amy - Hey I just left a comment at your site! Again - I love your knitty pattern. Noro may have just found themselves a new designer!

Mary, how is Inishmore #1 holding up? I am curious to hear how well the Mission Falls wool holds its shape. Any pilling, growing, etc? Though I suppose you must really like the stuff, since you're using it a second time...
