09.29.2003 :: Some Spinning

mohair/woolIt's funny, as I was plying the singles for this yarn in the low light of my family room, I was unimpressed with the color. In the fresh light of day, however, I like the colors much more. The color is very subtle. The overall look is a washed out gray, but up close, the variety of colors that make up the gray are quite interesting.

freshly spun yarn
This is the first time plying on my new wheel and it's a long way from perfect. I've got to get a tensioned lazy Kate to ply from as I'm sure that my current solution is part of the problem. I also let the single plys sit for months. Excuses, excuses, huh? I'm not really complaining, I'm just learning lessons from my own mistakes!
fibersI bought this fiber from a sheep and wool festival that I went to this summer. The wool is from Persimmon Tree Farm. They don't have any pictures on their site that accurately portray the beauty of their fibers and yarns. They had a variety of yarns already spun up that were gorgeous.

This wool/mohair was very dirty! While spinning the single ply, all kinds of detritous was falling out of the fiber. I had to pick quite a bit of stuff out as well. While plying, more junk dropped out, but I think that by the time I wash and rewind the yarn it should be mostly clean!

I think that this yarn is destined to be a pair of cuddly mittens or gloves.

Ok. The cat is out of the bag. I very impulsively purchased a Majacraft Suzie at the same fiber festival where I bought this yarn. I love it.

I LOVE those colors..isn't it funny how something can look kind of "eh" in the roving but you get it all spun up and it looks really neat? :)

Beautiful colors! I love their subtlety. I didn't realize that you are one of those *special* spinnin' gals. Help! I'm surrounded! ;) Thanks for the MT tips, Mary. I learn something new every time I visit. Maybe I'll just hang here for awhile. Is that a tea kettle I hear whistling? :)

Hi Mary! I love the color of the yarn you've spun! I "think" anyway! haha! I'm not really sure when I see pictures of yarn anymore! It is true that there is an amount of difference in the colors of individual monitors. And I am not upset at all about the yarn diference, I would just keep it in mind. Kind of a Yarn Surprise!
You spin too! wonderful!
:)

Hey, what new wheel? Another wheel besides the Ashford??? Inquiring Minds Want To Know!

Pretty colors. I've never liked mohair, but I like to admire other people's mohair.

I like that new (to me at least) section for tips and tricks, are you thinking of making a page for multiple tips? I'm using MT also and know I still have alot to learn about it. :)

Also the twinknetoes yarn is beautiful!
