10.22.2003 :: Rhinebeck Mother Lode

This past weekend was a wonderful change of pace that I was lucky to share with some really amazing new friends. Funny, knowledgable and as fiber-obsessed as me - we had a very nice time.

There were so many beautiful fibers and rovings at Rhinebeck that yarn seemed to be the farthest thing from my mind. Instead I tried to pick out some interesting rovings to work with as I experiment and continue to learn how to spin.

Sheep Shed had these beautiful tencel/merino rainbow painted rovings. I bought two and the very first thing I did was spin up the one on the right. The unspun roving below the light blue skein is the unspun roving in a different colorway. Lovely stuff which is incredibly easy to spin.

While testing out Bosworth spindles, I saw some beautiful singles which turned out to be fibers from Fantom Farm. It's safe to say that noone was able to get out of the Fantom Farm booth without dropping some cash for their gorgeous dyed rovings. The one pictured below is a dark grey roving dyed with golds, chestnuts and browns. The colors are glorious (and yes, I did get a bag of the pink!).

Here is the spun fiber (on my Majacraft Suzie). I don't think I'm going to ply this as it's very pretty as a single ply.

And I gave in to true love after just a few seconds at the Robin spinning wheel. I'm right on the list after Leigh for one of these wonderful wheels. I have a year and a half to get rid of at least one of my wheels...

acutally, it's a year, 5 months and 26 days on that Robin Wheel Miss Mary--time's flying isn't it? ;-) (ours should be ready on the same day I think!)

You sure spun up the Sheep Shed fiber quick and it looks beautiful.

You know what I'm realizing? I didn't buy enough fiber!

Mary, I put down a deposit for a Robin wheel in June. I was also told 1 1/2 years.

What do you have other than a Majacraft?

Poor Leigh...didn't buy enough fiber! I'll bet *she* won't be making that mistake again....;-)

What nice even spinning on that bobbin...very pretty.
