12.11.2003 :: My new philosphy

During the past year, I've been struck by some funny terms that are now used regularly by the press. One of my favorites is "nuclear ambition", which of course we usually hear pronounced as "nucular ambition" by our fearful leader.

Personally, I think that this term is just crying out to be the name of a band. Perhaps it should have been an 80's punk/dance band, but it would also be fun as the name of a heavy-metal/hair band (picture lots of things on the stage exploding).

On Tuesday morning (npr: morning edition), in a discussion about Dubya's meeting with the leader of China, our policy regarding Taiwan was described as a "dedicated policy of ambiguity". I think this description is fabulous. All of this time I thought that I needed to be taking sides and discriminating between right and wrong.

I've decided that my default approach to lifes difficulties will be a "dedicated policy of ambiguity". Family strife, problems at work, choosing gifts. Do you see the possibilities?

Here is the link to the story: (scroll down to) "Trade, Taiwan to Dominate Bush, Wen Talks". Although the link to the story is captioned correctly, the audio link currently points to a story about war tribunals and Iraq (note to self: ambiguity, remember). I've sent them an email and received a response, so hopefully they'll correct the link sometime soon. But if they don't, it's not big deal - broken link, fixed link - either way it works for me.
