01.21.2004 :: I'm swatching you!
While the pictures on the Peace Fleece site show that the yarn has interesting flecks, they really don't do this yarn justice.
There are flecks of practically every color against a deep earthy background which knits up into a lovely fabric. I like to describe this yarn as "rustic". It's not highly processed, has lanolin still in it and is a bit scratchy. I love it.

My swatching confession: It's not because I'm committed to following the rules. If I could knit to gauge with the recommended needles, I'd toss the swatching process out the window! I usually have to go down two needles sizes to get the recommended gauge and so I'm forced to swatch. For this project, the recommended needles are US8 and I'm right on gauge with a US6.

Oooh, that does look lovely :) I like the everyday cardigan as well. It's one of those sweaters that I can imagine wearing all the time.

You are a loose woman too?
;-)
But sometimes, I'm surprised with gauge...the designer is as loose as I am!

I'm with you Dj! I have to go up one to two needle sizes to get gauge. :)

I love the Peace Fleece in the color that you've choosen. I've been looking for a similar yarn for some time. I have a ratty old sweater at work that is knit from a yarn of many colors. It's perfect because I can throw it on over almost anything and it will morph to match whatever I'm wearing. This looks like a contender in my quest for a yarn for the Magical Morphing Sweater 2.

Oh, I really like Peace Fleece. I have a good bit of it waiting for the right project (as is 99% of of the rest of my stash...gah!). I really love that color you got.

Hello there, Mary. I'm a loose knitter too. I always start at 1 or two sizes smaller and am ALWAYS surprised when I'm too tight...NEVER. I've not heard of peace fleece, I'll have to check it out. I love rustic yarns with the quality of a good, honest, yarn. Nothing wrong with that. It's perhaps why I love Jamieson's Soft Shetland.
Can't wait to see how this comes out.

I am constantly battling the swatch ... and loosing! don't know when I will get it through my skull ... it's like a dose of castor oil.

I love that swatch. I am going to check out the peace fleece site. I am thinking that the cardigan you are knitting may have to be something in my future :)

Mary, your pics are the best. I love the little frame with shadow thingy you got going on here. Looks like we should've invited Michelle on our "quest"? :)

ohh, pretty! I did a little swatch of grassroots last night and decided that I definitely need to buy some more! (it's officially going to be the everyday sweater)
It reminds me a little of those teeny tiny shells you find at the beach--I don't know what they are called but you can find them buried in the sand where the waves come in. They mystified me as a kid.
Hey, I go down 2 needle sizes to get gauge too--no wonder we're friends! hahaha :)

I just recieved a big box from Peace Fleece... I use the mini skeins for kits. It is the first time I got the Ancient Fern, and you are so right about it! That will be one gorgeous sweater! Love it :)

Mary,
How many stitches per inch do you have there?

If it's any consolation, I have go UP two needles sizes to meet gauge.
