04.28.2004 :: Spinning, etc.

merinoskein.jpg

Here's a sort of close-up of a recently completed skein of yarn. I started spinning this back at the beginning of the year and finally finished it last week. I still have to wash it to set the yarn and clean up anything that may have stuck in it while Katy was pre-drafting it for me. She spread this roving out across the floor two times! Shame on me for not getting it up and out of the way.

The roving that I used for this skein is merino wool from New Zealand that I bought on ebay. I am always amazed at how soft merino wool is - it feels so much like cotton. Prior to spinning, I took this roving apart and made two piles, one for each ply. I made a pile of all of the yellow and gold sections of the roving and then another pile of the rest of the roving which was mostly pinks and oranges. I'm not sure if I'm satisfied with the outcome - it's nice yarn, but not too exciting. Maybe I've just been looking at it for too long.

You have just been too close for too long because it is wonderful!
How much Roving was there? and how much yardage do you end up with?

I concur with the others! It's lovely, and I would bet it will knit up to be an absolutely beautiful piece.

You're crazy, it's beautiful! Looks like cotton candy. :) YUM.

You're right, it's very boring. Not you at all. Why don't you just pack it up and mail it on over to me! I'd be more than happy to take that pretty (oops, I mean pitiful) yarn off your hands!

It's lovely, lovely yarn! Put it in a dark place for a month or so and take it out and you will love it too.

Looks perfectly exciting to me! I daresay it's even a bit loud!

What are you planning to do with it? I'd make socks. :-)

It is totally exciting! It says spring or summer and crispness and creamsicles and lemons and it's wonderful!

No, no, no! I was excited when I saw it. In fact, I'm pretty sure my jaw dropped a bit. Yummy, yummy. Nice job spinning :-)

Your handspun is thrilling to look at! It looks like a skein-full of spring. I too wonder what you will knit up with it.

Posted by: Tiffany on 04.29.2004 AT 06:23 PM

Oh no, it's really pretty--you're just jaded from seeing it all the time! Good work.

If that is not too exciting, I can hardly wait to see what you think is exciting... will stay tuned...

I agree with everyone else. You've been staring too long. It's fabulous and the colors are perfect. It will make a wonderfully soft sweater.

I think it's absolutely stunning...like a bowl of sherbert!

The colors are scrumptious. Would love to see this one knit up! (Who was the Ebay seller?)

I bow to you. How very lovely.

I have to chime in with everyone else. This is lovely yarn. I can think of half of dozen things right off the bat that I'd use it for. Forget Pamela in Dallas. Send it here instead. (Hey, Pamela, wanna split it?)

Hey, I'm doing this too with that shirley poppies fiber I just got--it's a very similar colorway.

what will you make with the yarn?
