09.26.2004 :: Mittenettes

warmth

Mittenettes = Finished.

Inspired by: Missa's free pattern.

Yarn: Lorna's Laces Worsted Weight Wool in the color Gold Hill

Needles: Double-pointed US size 6 (or about, I didn't check them, but they seemed right)

I made a few modifications. Instead of 30 stitches, I cast-on 36 stitches. I think that I was using a lighter weight of yarn and so was getting a tighter gauge. To compensate for the tighter row gauge, I did my increases for the thumb gusset every third row instead of every other row.

The picture above is a scanned image of the mittenettes. They look like their different sizes, but they are really the same - one is just stretched out.

And, they are quite warm and cozy.

Update on the smooch...

Spencer and I started a new class today. Since he tore his ACL, he's been laying low on the agility front (though based on his antics in the park, I'm probably being overly cautious). We've been taking some advanced obedience classes and we started a new session today. He loves the attention and the constant stream of treats and as a result does quite well in class.

One of the other dog owners in my class told me that her friend has a golden retriever who has suffered through the same Mast Cell Tumor issue that Spencer has been having. What was encouraging to hear was that apparently this dog has been alive for over two years after the onset of the second tumor. The tumor hasn't gone away and the area has to be kept clean, but apparently the dog is doing okay.

I'm still working on balancing optimism and realism, but I was still really glad to hear this dog's story. Spencer seems as healthy and strong as ever, except for this ugly mess on his cheek. We can certainly live with the tumor if he continues to feel good.

I always like to mouse over to see what you name your pictures....these mittenettes look like they would be handy to have in Rhinebeck.

Did you really just stick the mittens on a scanner?

Thanks for the good story about Spencer's pal in class; I hope the Smooch stays strong and healthy, messy face or not.

Oh, and cool mitts!

You caption your pics? Shoot, I can't read them in Firefox. I like those mittenettes. Leigh is right, they'll be great for Rhinebeck. That reminds me, I need to dig out the ones I bought last year. The dog news does sound encouraging. I think it's going to take a lot to bring down Spencer. I predict he has a great future. Not that I have a crystal ball or anything. :)

The mittenettes are beautiful and the encouragement regarding Spencer--even better. There is something to be said for a strong willed dog. :)

Good puppy news. I was thinking about him alot this weekend. I think Nanette at "Knitting In Color" scans her FO's also and they are always so clear. My son would like a pair of these mittenettes but I have been having trouble finding yarn he is interested in. I was hoping to find something at Stitches or Rhinebeck. Yours are very pretty. : )

The mittenettes are wonderful! I might need to whip up a pair of those.
Good news about Spencer. At least he is happy. Also, some friends of ours have a dog that seems to live through every calamity. He has/had cancer, and the vet even gave him a week to live, but that was several months ago, and he just keeps going!

Oh, you just gave me a great project for small amounts of handspun I have laying around! Doggie hugs to Spencer...a constant love source seems to do him good!

Yes, what matters most is how Spencer is acting (feeling). Glad his energy is good. Have fun in class.

Nice mitts!

The mittenettes are great. And so is the Point 5 scarf..the pooling effect is perfect for it.
