10.20.2004 :: Short Vacation Story

Serenity.
Well, it was serene until...
My vacation was spent on Martha's Vineyard. It's a wonderful place to visit in October - quiet and lightly populated. All of the beaches are open to anyone* and if you like to shop there are lots of great sales as the shops start to close down to for the season.
I stay at the same place each time I visit - a nice little cottage that allows dogs. Dogs + vacation + beach = Fun. Really.
This year I did the same old thing, but was lucky enough to get to share a wonderful a day with Kerstin. She captured her visit very nicely (and much more promptly) on her blog.
Oh, yes. Chilmark Chocolates. After those chocolates, a Snicker's bar looks like an alien creation masquerading as candy.
The pictures from the last two entries are from this year's trip. The weather was gorgeous and except for the the risk of running into a naked, middle-aged man playing volleyball in the nude, Lucy Vincent really is one of the most beautiful beaches around.
* after re-reading the post, I realized that this wouldn't make much sense unless you knew that some of the beaches on the island are "residents only" during the summer. During the fall, beach passes are not required, so anyone is free to visit any of the beaches - if you can find them, since they are not well-marked. Funny thing is, despite this, I still went to the Chilmark beaches only - Lucy Vincent and Squibnocket - both are just perfect.

Oh my! Katy's expression says it all, dogs have expressions right ? I like the "you think I am moving off this chair, I am the queen!" or the "you just let my sister outside without ME! " expressions. Cute Cute!

We used to go every year about 10 years ago. Lucy was our favorite. Beautiful photos!

Martha's Vineyard was my most memorable vacation. We biked all over both islands and drove around in the light rain. Chilmark at Bettlebung Corner and the chocolate! Oh my! I still have the canvas bag I bought there. Thanks for bringing back such lovely memories.
The best to you and Spencer and may you have wonderful memories, too.

My father used to own a clothing store on Nantucket. Every September all his employees would head back to college and I would go and work at the shop. Nantucket in September and October is my favorite place to be in the world. It's so peaceful.

Pretty pink sky! You captured it so well. Or have you been a naughty girl and fooled around with retouching again? ;) Fun memories!

In North Carolina, law and public policy dictate that the beaches belong to everyone and private property owners cannot limit access! We've got lots of it. You sure can come down here, ya'll, anytime of year.
