11.09.2005 :: Austrian Twisted Stitch

inspiration
charts!
traditional

I think I ordered these books from Four Seasons Knitting in Canada. They are written in German with a one page translation sheet.

The charts are fairly easy to read and the books are packed full of them. There are examples of sweaters, socks (especially the inserts for knee socks that cover the back of the calf). Twisted stitch patterns are probably my favorites. I loved that sweater that I posted about yesterday because it's a great example of using the traditional stitches in an updated sweater style.

Cara from JanuaryOne is going to host a knit-along and she has posted a really nice picture of the sweater.

A couple people have asked about yarn. I recently ordered some Hebridean 3 Ply yarn from Virtual Yarns without a specific pattern in mind (maybe another Inishmore). That yarn may be good for this sweater. The other yarn I'm considering is Jamieson's Shetland DK and have ordered a few balls from Two Swans Yarns to experiment with.

Oooh, Mary! It must be in the air because I have pulled all of those out of my library thinking that between the book and the stitch dictionaries I can come up with the sweater. Now to find a yarn. I don't think I have anything in my stash. I have a lot of aran, but think this should be a lighter weight. Size 4-6 needles maybe? I do have a couple that would knit to that gauge, but aren't really what I would want. Cara is going to do the knit along. Now to start swatching, but still, what yarn?

Oh, I think those photos gave me a small heart attack. I can't wait to know more about them.

I definitely want to knit the sweater, but I doubt I'll join the knit-along. It may be years down the road before I get the chance! Thanks for the link to the Jamieson's. I think I'll go browse....

I was thinking that Rauma Strikkegarn, Dale Heilo, or Gems Opal would work. They are all dk weight, do you think it would work in a worsted or aran weight? I hadn't thought of the Jamieson's.....headed over!

Oh-I also thought of the Brown Sheep DK weight. It would be a bit more affordable.
