11.06.2005 :: Natural Colored Wool

I'm being very careful to keep this new spindle away from the canine jaws of Katy the Spindlechewer

At a recent fiber fair, I had a chance to test a new "wheel" using some un-dyed gray roving. In roving form it looks relatively unattractive, but while spinning it up, I realized how much I like the look of the finished yarn. The subtle shades of gray are quite pretty.

So, I decided to pick up a bundle of natural colored roving before leaving and since then have been spinning it on my new drop spindle.

I like that the yarn I'm spinning is very much a worsted yarn and my inevitable behavior of over manipulating the fiber while drafting isn't really an option while using the drop spindle.

I think the yarn spun from this roving might be perfect for a pair of thrummed mittens.

So pretty. I have been gravitating toward natural shades these days - just started something in natural sheep wool colors...(what fun to see my thrums in that image search!)

I love that gray. I was just wondering about your wheel today. Have you received it yet?

So pretty!
I bought my first fleece this year, and was so attracted to the grey ones. I love the way it spins up, and it's so much more fun to dye grey wool (imo).

Love the new colors--it is so "fallish" and matches the photos.

I could not find a way to e-mail you directly--just wanted to let you know that I truly enjoyed your blog, your writing, and your fabulous spinning!

I think your yarn is lovely. I just picked up some natural colored alpaca and it's looking so pretty, I usually dye all my stuff but I think I'll keep this just the way it is.
