11.27.2005 :: Picking Up Where I Left Off

Little Rivers

Over a year ago I set this project aside. I think it was because I had worked on it over the summer while Spencer was sick and somehow when I let him go, I let this project go as well. The charts and the details where not something I felt like concentrating on.

But, here it is. I pulled it out today and evaluated my progress. Two sleeves done and a significant portion of the front. I'm ready to work on this and finish it up.

This is the Little Rivers Aran sweater from Alice Starmore's book, Stillwater. I'm knitting it in Cascade's Eco Wool.

I did a google image search to see if this sweater showed up and although I didn't find it, I did find this cool page of swatches (or maybe they are afghan squares).

Thank goodness I was taking good notes - I knew exactly which line of the chart that I was on. A miracle!

Thank You, notes!

Oh my god the details! I love your notes - I'm going to have to do something like that for our sweater. By the way, I received my book - did you? It's gorgeous!

Oooooo, I remember this one (and Martha's Vineyard and Spencer, too). This will be one of those sweaters you'll love forever, M.

Love the sweater. And everytime I see that Cascade Eco wool in a store, I think of you. Hmmm. Maybe that's a clue that I should get a life? If I remember what yarn my friend is using to knit her long-dormant sweater?

Beautiful sweater, and detailed notes. I need to start doing that...

Good for you Mary, for picking it up again! I guess you were just ready - everything in its own time. I'll send you a link for a Eco Wool sweater...

What type of program did you use for the notes on the Little River sweater? I need to be 'more detailed' with my knitting, since I have sooooo many projects on needles at this time of the year.

You are just too good. Now if that had been me, well let's not go there!

That is very beautiful. I'd be interested in a yarn review too!

Yeah, what's the Eco Wool like? Is it soft enough to wear over a t-shirt or is this strictly to be worn over a long-sleeved turtleneck? I love the light soft greys, but if it's too itchy, I won't try it. My threshold, if it helps: I can wear a Peace Fleece cardi over a t-shirt, but just barely.

You know, you do absolutely beautiful work!!!! I was wondering if you could point me in the direction of somewhere on the 'net that would give me translations for the symbols in the chart you posted? I've knit aran sweaters before, but not from commercial patterns. They were both KAL back in the '90s and I sort of fudged on the symbols so they would be easy for me to understand while I was working on the pattern. I don't have the Alice Starmore books--library has just one--out until mid-December. I know there has to be some place to find out what those cryptic little symbols mean.......

Also--are all the yarns you're using for the Crossed in Translation sweater DK? The Cascade 220 isn't, is it?

Awesome, I need to learn how to take good notes. There were so many projects that I ripped out and started all over again because I didn't have good note...
Happy knitting...
Oh P.S. I ordered the same manos in flower something Im not sure of the exact color of the yarn but I think I got the exact one that you have knitted up, I fell in love with it because of your web site.

What a great idea to color the different stitches in, on the chart!!!

Your Aran work inspires me. Makes me want to start one. I am actually knitting Forbes Forest from Scarf Style.... does this count as Aran?
