11.13.2005 :: Warm Hands Update

I really am knitting along to the Warm Hands Knit-along being hosted by Sandy. One mitten is finished and another is just started.

One Blue Mitten

I'm not even sure if this mitten matches any of my winter outerwear, but I love it all the same. The yarn is from a cone of Bartlett Yarns sportweight fisherman's wool in the color Blue Heather. It's a bit rough coming off the cone, but washes up into a lovely fabric that reminds me of those classic lambswool cardigans that have ribbons along the buttonbands.

I'm using the generic mitten pattern from Ann Budd's book. The gauge on these works out to about 6.5 st/in on US size 2 bamboo needles.

Unfortunately, I won't have time to knit this afternoon since I have this job to take care off...

Some leaves...

Fortunately, I have a new book on tape and will probably get through a few hours of it before the day is over.

And check this out:

More Leaves!

More leaves! Some are still green. My three big maples hold on to their leaves until Thanksgiving!

Yum. I love Bartlett. Admirable taking on such a tight gauge. You will have them forever.

That's one thing I don't miss about suburbia...leaves. Here we have tons of trees, but none near the house.
I love the color of your mittens!

The mittens are gorgeous! I was planning on using the Ann Budd book as my guide with the mittens I'm going to make....someday.

I feel your pain with the leaves. But it sounds like you've got a great plan- raking and *reading* on a crisp, fall day. Wonderful. What are you listening to, by the way?

I've got three kids I can send over to rake for you. They'll work for a hot meal. Or at least a few quarters. Lovely mitten pic!

the mittens look great.

the wind took care of what leaves i had, lol. i don't have any leafing trees in my yard, and my neighbor only has 2. the big problem with his trees is that one drops pods on the ground that are approximately 18 inches long, and look like snakes out of the corner of your eye. snakes don't bother me, but my fiance, son, and daughter can't stand the things, and since my son mows my lawn, he spends a large part of the time running in hollering "snake!" and all it was was those lousy pods. what a weenie, lol!

what book did you listen to?

i've got a ton of them around here (i listen in the car and in the evening, since i don't watch tv)

Those mittens are great! You might just have to get new outerwear to match them. They deserve it!
