Yarn: Blackwater Abbey worsted weight wool Color: Pink Heather Needles: US6, bamboo Notes: How gorgeous is this yarn? It holds cables beautifully, is crisp and has an amazing depth of color. I. love. this. yarn. I think this would be an awesome yarn for the Crossed in Translation sweater... more

More Warmth
November 21, 2005 09:51 PM
I finished the blue mittens for Sandy's Warm Hands Knit-along and to take a break from the twisted stitch swatches, I started knitting a pair of mittens with some variegated Manos. This Manos is gorgeous and knits up quickly. It was fun to take pictures of - such pretty... more

Some thoughts on gauge...
November 19, 2005 03:59 PM
Two more swatches done. One in Blackwater Abbey two-ply worsted weight wool. One in Colorado Yarns Vail - a sportweight superwash wool. My gut instinct was that the fabric for this sweater should be very crisp and stiff and so, as I started swatching, I used smaller needles. What... more

Swatch One for the soon to be named Japanese Twisted Stitch sweater. Yarn: Jamieson's DK, color #231 Bracken Needles: US size 4 Swatch: I approximated something of the pattern based on the picture of the sweater and used the wide panel that is one of the German books that I... more

Brooks Farm Yarn
January 25, 2005 09:41 PM
I think I've finally found a satisfying project for the skein of Brooks Farm mohair yarn that I received as a wonderful present. A simple scarf that shows off the beauty of the yarn and will be a lovely accessory. I'm using a "fancy" ribbing pattern that really isn't... more

Rip, rip, rip!
January 22, 2004 10:40 AM
Yes, that's correct, I am loose. Or perhaps on the loose? Leigh caught my "alt" note on the photo of the sleeve which admitted that the sleeve had been ripped out once. The first ripping session (I say first, because there have now been two) was due to my late... more

I'm swatching you!
January 21, 2004 08:19 AM
While the pictures on the Peace Fleece site show that the yarn has interesting flecks, they really don't do this yarn justice. There are flecks of practically every color against a deep earthy background which knits up into a lovely fabric. I like to describe this yarn as "rustic". It's... more

Canyonville
January 12, 2004 11:54 PM
Pattern: Canyonville from Alice Starmore's American Portraits Yarn: Cascade 220 Traveling twisted stitches are my absolute favorites. As with Inishmore, the stitches are twisted on the front and the back of the knitting. I'm not sure if I'll ever make the sweater, but I was really curious about the... more

Swatch
November 17, 2003 10:23 PM
Here's the swatch knit from the yarn that I spun in the last entry. I'm so happy to report that I was successful in spinning a heavy worsted weight yarn. Some may even say that it's bulky - just over 3 stitches per inch (using my oh-so-professional method of measuring... more

Sanqahar Swatch
October 12, 2003 10:57 AM
This swatch is for a pair of Sanquhar Gloves. I'm going to use the free pattern from the Japanese web site the ABC's of Knitting. The yarn is Jamieson and Smith 2-ply laceweight (shetland wool). I'm using 1.5mm(US000) needles. I did a one-color, back and forth swatch and my gauge... more

Progress
May 4, 2002 12:02 AM
Today was a very productive sock knitting day. I started knitting the toe-up sock last night with Opal Southwestern Sock Yarn in Color#5. At work today, no one was around for lunch, so I was able to spend a few minutes working on the sock. I had anticipated a bleak... more

Opal Sock Yarn Swatch
May 3, 2002 09:27 AM
Made a swatch to check gauge for a pair of socks with my new Opal yarn. It's totally delicious and looks very nice. I'll put a picture up later, but I swatched with US0 needles and got about 8.5 stitches/inch. A little tighter than the recommended gauge, but the fabric... more

Lighthouse Socks
December 8, 2001 12:54 PM
I started the Lighthouse Sock kit that I ordered from Halcyon Yarns (it can also be ordered directly from Peace Fleece). I love the yarn made by Peace Fleece. I like yarn which has a bit of lanolin in it. This has some, but it doesn't smell. The heathered yarns... more
